BOOK DESCRIPTION

In late-16th Century Europe, the Religious Wars between the forces of King Philip II’s Catholic-ruled Spanish Empire against the Protestant England of Queen Elizabeth I and her allies of the United Dutch Provinces have turned most of the western continent into a bloody battleground.

But a Shadow War also rages across the western world, a war fought in secret between the living and the forces of the supernatural by men sworn to keep “The Midnight Watch,” and do battle against the dark powers of hell wherever they might be found.

So it is that when young Scot Archibald MacGreggor of the Eastern Highlands survives a disastrous encounter with the three vampiric witch women of the Baobhan-Sith – an encounter which takes the lives of his three beloved elder brothers – it is the mysterious swordsman known as Raven the Night Watchman, a man damned by the fates to forever keep the Midnight Watch, who appears out of the night to help Archie gain his vengeance against the Baobhan-Sith once and for all.

Bound by a blood oath made to Raven, Archie accompanies the black clad Night Watchman to the cursed Protestant Dutch town of Gefferstad, where they are joined by ex-French military commander Gaspard de Platiére and ex-High Inquisitor Francisco de los Santos of the dreaded Spanish Inquisition, both Night Watchmen themselves.

What Raven and his Midnight Watch team soon discovers is that Gefferstad is haunted by the bubonic plague spreading undead revenant of the town’s former rat catcher, who has returned from the grave on a dark mission of revenge and retribution that may threaten to bring about the Apocalypse itself – and very possibly the end of the entire world.
